I have read on other blogs that the pro-jet crowd is getting people to write the Currituck website in support of the noise. You folks will have some serious problems if that runway is installed. Think KI real estate moves slow now? Just wait until the jets are giving you the really low flights and the turn arounds. It is quite obvious they are 'probing' the area w/ the turn arounds at the end of the island. As a VB ex-pat I can tell you they tend to be a tad bit dishonest about the noise levels. I think the folks still affected in VB are at a breaking point. It's amazingly loud when things actually rattle off of shelves and pictures become crooked. I hope we never see what I saw up there.

Speaking of aircraft noise, yesterday afternoon I was at Pearl's drinking fresh milk and the weather got real bad. All of a sudden some people in a blue helicopter, I guess just to be on the safe side, landed in the back yard of one of the houses right next door. It was the coolest thing I saw all day. A short time later some guy pulled up to the dock in one of those Louisiana airboats, but after seeing the helicopter the airboat seemed kind of insignificant.

Yeah, I have seen the airboat being trailered over at the beach. Speaking of helicopters, there was a police heli this morning flying all over the island. Flying really low too.

Answer me why U folks are so intent on developing every lot on the Island...And be careful for what U ask for ! If UR in real estate development it's a matter of $$$...Progress, "this is the way we did it", Look out your windows to the North, it's the sweet kiss of death to a quiet way of life !!

I am not sure who you are talking to but after re-reading the entire thread I am the only person who used the term 'real estate.' The meaning of my statement was that the jet noise will destroy your property values, and your "quiet way of life" all in one shot. No one has advocated developing anything. In fact, I have been here for almost 4 years and the only land I have seen open for development was done so by a farmer who was born and raised here. In fact, all land on KI that has been open for developement has been done so by a local or one of their decendents. I think you will need to talk to the people who actually own open land to halt the building. I cannot speak for everyone on this site but I only own the land under me.
In short, the point of this thread was to point out that our way of life is threatened by Navy jets. I honestly do not understand how you interpreted a pro-development message from this.
I would like to welcome you back though "Grumpy." It's been a while.

Maybe the part you said about real estate moving slow was taken to mean that your real estate conglomeration here on the island has been suffering. Either that or we're talking about those of us with "already bin bilt" houses and not the building of new ones. Semantics aside, I understood what you meant and while I don't particularly want to sell soon, I am counting on this old shack to be part of my retirement, which means that if it doesn't rise at a predictable rate, I'm f(*&*d. Kinda.
It is nice to have some old friends back but I thought that was Grouchy and Shady.

Who said anything about development? I think the string is about the sound of freedom fuc**n' up our way of life.

For the record...I did build a new house. In my defense, I stopped another from being built. People were trying to contact the owner of the lot next door and I swiped the sign. I made a cash offer and took it off of the market. I then split it w/ my neighbor and we had it added to our existing lots. So things could be worse as you could have two of me. I am not too bad though.
