Veteran posters may remember that last year somebody had the brilliant idea of having the Peach Festival and the Wildlife Festival on the same weekend. Many of us remember how badly that went. Rather than learning from their mistakes, the Wildlife people and Peach Festival people decided to do the very same thing again this year, with similar disasterous results. Will these people ever learn?

Disasterous as in "33 car pile up"? or disaterous as in "no one went to both festivals."
I've always thought they should hold one in summer and the other in fall. Winter would even work since it's an indoor event.

Just curious?? Either of you go to the Festival and try to support the Ruritans? Maybe things didn't go so great this year, however last year's events brought in a good deal of funds that allowed the Club to give 5 scholarships totalling $3500.00 to graduating seniors. That's just one of the good things this club does. Did you know that 50% of this year's profits are set aside to help with building a skatepark for our kids? If I sound a little irritated, I apologize, but the Ruritans seem to get a lot of flack for trying to do good for our community.

All I did was opine that the festivals could be split up. We're still waiting to hear what the definition of disaterous is.
Just curious. Did things not go well? I am always out of town earning a living for my family so I haven't been able to hang around the festivals.

Last year we were just kidding around that the Wildlife and Peach Fesival people were feuding and doing bad things to each other. None of it was true. We were just joking around. Sorry.

HA! Oh man. You got us again. Jeez we need to be wide awake when you're here.
I still think the two festivals should be spaced so that the island has attention year 'round.
Not criticizing. Everyone relax. Just a marketing idea.

To clarify what everyone is joking about, last year we concocted this story of a fued between the two events. Sign stealing and such was part of the story. I wish we had it to post because it was really funny. We love the Ruritans.
The Mexicans under the bridge to hold it up was real though.
Anyhow, Ron...is that you?

"The Mexicans under the bridge to hold it up was real though. "That's true. Monday I drove my boat all the way around the Island because now you can get a boat under the bridge if they lift it up a little for you. I left the north end and returned about an hour later. My boat cruises at about 23 mph so I calculated that it's exactly 23 miles all the way around. Then I opened "Google maps", used the "distance" command and it measured 22.9 miles, so don't trust the Google Maps distance feature. Obviously it's inaccurate. P.S. there were lots of kayakers out there and one canoe guy. The kayakers and the canoe guy were trading insults. I didn't know there was so much animosity between kayakers and canoers.

It's a shame. The anamosity. But if canoists weren't such jerks, a lot of it would ease away. Careful: Mature language.

Yeah, some guy down the street has a canoe. He just thinks he's so cool paddling around everywhere like he's God's gift to people with boats. What a jerk. I might go buy a kayak just to piss him off. I might even get one of those helmets like kayakers wear on tv. I'll show this guy who's cool.

Well, I did it. That's right....I bought an inflatable kayak at Walmart so I could outcool the canoe guy down the street. I followed him out the canal but suddenly things took a turn for the worse. I paddled about halfway out Capsies creek and my inflatable kayak somehow developed an air leak. Fortunately, thanks to my extensive training in the U.S. Navy, I was able to quickly troubleshoot the problem and determined that it probobly had a hole in it. As it was shriveling up the canoe guy noticed that I was in mortal danger and rescued me. It was cool too because he had beer. As he paddled me and my shriveled up kayak all the way back to my dock, I asked him if he thought kayak people were creeps. He said, "I don't know, they're ok I guess. Tell me about the hottie across the street from you. Ya' gettin any of that?" Sadly, I had to say "no". He was an ok guy and I'm seriously thinking of becoming a canoe person now. Monday I plan to exchange my inflatable kayak for an inflatable canoe. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

I have 3 out of the last 4 years. What I did that was more important is spent money w/ you vendors. Not trinkets, but lawn furniture and signs. Kim, my significant other worked for the festival this year on behalf of the Friends group. I fully support the Ruritans and appreciate the t-ball helmets.
I still think KIguy is funny though. That was one of the best threads ever.
In addition, I plan to ram the first person I see in a canoe w/ my kayack. SOB's!
